      Hi,
I have a working power on/off solution for arcade cabinet, but it leaves the Rpi3 in stand-by mode (red power LED on, but Rpi3 is off.). I think this is okay, but interested in your feedback about any negative side effects. I see a variety of power control blocks available, but it doesn't seem I need any of them, so I wonder if I'm missing something.

      • Current power off solution - Use Emulation Station menu. Menu > Quit > Shutdown System > Yes. Rpi3 gracefully shuts down and goes into stand-by mode.
      • Current power on solution - Connected a momentary switch (an extra Sanwa OBSF30 button) to the Rpi3 RUN pin headers. Press button while the Rpi3 is in stand-by mode so the Rpi3 powers on and boots as usual.

Are there known issues with leaving the Rpi3b in stand-by mode for extended periods of time?

Please note: I am not criticizing the use of separate power boards in any way. Maybe the RUN pins are a new feature of the Rpi3 and this wasn't an option on earlier models.(?)

      TIA for any info!
      -John

just be careful if you hit that switch that is connected to the run pins while the pi is running it does a hard shut down, its the equivilant of pulling out the power.

Thank you! Yes, I'm re-thinking the use of a Sanwa button on the front face of the cabinet. Instead, think I'll use a smaller momentary button with a stronger spring somewhere more out-of-the-way. Maybe on the top/rear or somewhere out of sight.
