Do those hard drive caddy/enclosure things actually work?

You know, those ones that look an Xbox 360 hdd, but are actually just a shell that a normal 2.5" hdd fits into. The reason I have doubts is because I know that putting a normal 2.5" hdd straight in doesn't work, you have to do some software modifications to get them to work.

@TokiyoRio sure they work, but you have to be mindful that if they don't have external power, the pi (you're using a pi?) may not have the juice to power them via USB.
