Retropie in a Cocktail - Flip Screen
-
Hi,
I have seen a few post of this from a while back but the info is not clear. I an looking to fit a retropie in a cocktail.
I am using V4.5.1 and running a number of games in the Mame4All emulator.
If i use the configuration dipswitch in the emulator and set cocktail mode when I select 2 player (games like 1943, etc.) will it flip of split screen??
I will be setting the retropie to run normally at 90 degrees rotation (vertical)

@RetroPieVin I think I'm doing exactly what you're looking to accomplish. Depending on how you rotate the video it can be very processor intensive. You can use dip switches IF THE GAME ORIGINALLY SUPPORTED A COCKTAIL MODE.
I have no experience with Mame4All. I use MAME2003 which offers easy access to the MAME menu with the dip switch option. Not all games support this "screen flipping for second player". I love classic arcade cocktail games like Mr. Do!, Frogger, Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 3, Elevator Action. MAME2010 seems to offer a split screen mode for two player simultaneous games. I currently only use it for *JJ Squawkers * because it plays decently with a four-way joystick.

I had rotated the video in the retropi configuration setup on a previous cabinet and it seemed to run fine. I will try the dip switched in the mame4all and see how it goes. Thanks

@RetroPieVin Yeah, I've had no obvious problem with rotating the video prior to starting ES, but I'm running very "low resource" games in this instance.
Like I said depending on which emulator you use it could do either. You could use a split screen mode like MAME2010 provides when you put anything in cocktail video mode or you could use a dip switch for rotating the entire play area for second player like MAME2003 does. You could also use a shader in RA to achieve a split screen affect for simultaneous two player action. (The shader option wouldn't just be for the second player though.)
