-
Hi,
My SD card died with all my roms on it, luckily i backed them up.I re-installed RetroPi onto a new SD card and copied the whole 28GB Roms directory (inclusing saves) into /RetroPie/roms
However none of my games show in Emulation Station
Anybody able to point me in th eright direction please?
Many Thanks

Did you do the same thing with the image on the dead SD-Card?
Installed the official Retropie from this page and copied the roms over in their folders? -
I dont know i was given the original SD card from my brother in law who never played on it
I installed RetroPie onto the new SD card from here https://retropie.org.uk/download/ its a Pi3

It is hard to say without knowing what was on the image of your brother-in-law.
Problem sounds like missing emulators for those roms as there are a lot that you wont find on the base Image and have to install them yourself.
Did your Brother-in-Law create this image by himself?
He would be the best person to answer these questions then.
If it was a prebuilt one (i could imagine that because he never used it...): these are not supported here.As far as you are buliding your own image now we could try this: what roms for which systems are we talking about?
-
He isnt tech savvy at all so id say for sure he didnt do it himself and brought it prebuilt
I mainly played on the nes/snes and megadrive games
-
I have no idea.
As far as we are talking about regular roms for those systems they belong into the folders "roms/nes", "roms/snes" and "roms/megadrive" (or Genesis) and should show up in ES.
Are you sure you really copied the roms into these folders? -
Are there files named
gamelist.xml
in the subdirectories ofroms
(e.g.roms/nes/gamelist.xml
)?If not, is the option "Parse Gamelists Only" checked in Emulation Station (ES) under "Main Menu" > "Other Options"?
With that option checked but no gamelist files in either the rom directories or in
~/.emulationstation/gamelists/
, no games will be shown in ES.If you have no gamelist files, maybe they were located in
~/.emulationstation/gamelists/
instead of the rom directories on the old sd card. -

So i went into RetroPie Setup, updated script and installed all emulators
Copied roms back over to \retropie\roms again but still they wernt showing
Checked option "Parse Gamelists Only" which was turned on.
Turned it off, reloaded ES and i have my games back!Thankyou once again

@mrast Glad to hear that. Did you check
~/.emulationstation/gamelists/
on the old card for anygamelist.xml
files that you could copy over to the new system? (You could then set "Parse Gamelists Only" again.)Mind that
.emulationstation
is a hidden directory, as all files and directories are whose names start with a dot on Linux.
