So I'm very much a n00b when it comes to MAME. Would this run on any of the cores that exist on Retropie? Or we'd have to wait for the new rom to be supported on the specific romset?

It is not supported yet by any MAME-Port for the RaspberryPi.
        The code is available (https://github.com/originalgrego/mame/commit/103f28994f7e893ea9b79ba8adb01a900b5f677b

May be that it will be added to FinalBurn Neo soon, they have a thread concerning this hack on their webpage.
This is something @barbudreadmon could say more ;)

@sirhenrythe5th On a sidenote, i noticed the layout of the game is different from the teaser :
                ffightae-191204-150040.png

The teaser shows a 3rd lifebar unaligned with the 2 others, i hope the teaser is from an older version and it's not some kind of very weird emulation bug.

@barbudreadmon Thank you for adding it in! I'll give that a go tomorrow :D

I think the teaser is from an earlier version as the video is dated March yet this release is from a couple of days ago.

Instead of starting a new topic...

The responses here say the support has been added to the two emulators. How does one update the individual emulators in the Retropie image to gain these new supported games? If it was just added in February my image from October wouldn't have the latest version, right?

@mitu are these emulators considered core packages?

FBNeo is in the main packages section, while Mame2003+ is in the experimental packages section. If you don't see them, update your RetroPie-Setup script first.

Updated packages and ready to go.

According to the docs mame2003plus uses the .78 mame romset, is this correct? The patch is not working on that version. Does this hack require a newer edition that wouldn't work within Retroie?

I purposely made sure the new clone rom for ffightae would work off the original MAME78 ffight parent rom, so if you have that in your set and it's correct for MAME2003
you'd just drop fightae.zip into your roms folder and it'll work fine, i know it did for me a while back when i tested the game after adding support for it.
