Kodi running in windowed mode?

I have been running retropie with kodi port without any problems for some time now but after some gaming when I launched Kodi it shows like picture in picture with the commandline behind.
I have tried updating both via putty and in retropie setup as well as rebooted multible times but the image will not go fullscreen again.
Pi Model : 3B+
Power Supply used: Raspberry Pi - Power Supply slim
RetroPie Version Used: commit 165f8876c7791cd0f02e66fa3d77359640e1617b:
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
Emulator: Kodi
How to replicate the problem: Start Kodi -

#) to return to fullscreen. -

It depends on the keyboard but it is generally the key \ or one of the ones close to Enter.
