Setting up 2 player games with identical controllers
-
Hi,
I installed retropie just a few days ago and everything works well except I can’t play any 2 player games. I plugged in 2 identical usb keyboards, one in slot one and one in slot two, but when I try to play 2 player games both keyboards control the same player. I looked on the retropie documentation but it says ‘page not found’. I am an extreme beginner so I would appreciate if someone got extremely specific with instructions. Thanks! -
Did you configure them in emulation station?
I'd amost just say, get yourself 2 inexpensive USB gamepads and have more fun than with a keyboard .. -
@atariplayer You may need to adjust RetroArch controls by editing
\\retropie\configs\all\retroarch.cfg
(use Notepad++ to edit this file) and add the corresponding mapping for P2. Here is how it's mapped for P1, you just need to add similar entried with_player2_
and make sure the mappings don't overlap with P1.input_player1_a = "x" input_player1_b = "z" input_player1_y = "a" input_player1_x = "s" input_player1_start = "enter" input_player1_select = "rshift" input_player1_l = "q" input_player1_r = "w" input_player1_left = "left" input_player1_right = "right" input_player1_up = "up" input_player1_down = "down"
Which document page is
not-found

@mitu I'm still getting the same problem, but it's probably me and not your response. I took out the USB from the pi, plugged it into my computer, went to //usb drive/retropie/configs/from_retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg and using notepad, copy and pasted all the input_player1 commands and changed it to input_player2 and mapped non-overlapping keys. When I plugged the USB back in, both keyboards still controlled player 1, and player 2 was still unresponsive. What did I do wrong? By the way, going to this link https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/First-Installation#configure-controllers shows up as page not found, and this link was found here. Thank you for a speedy and detailed response!

I understand you, I thin I have the same issue here and still no solution ...
(that P2 can use same joystick as P1 (when playing one after one), or use different joystick (when P1 and P2 have to play at the same time)

@atariplayer I'm not sure you edited the right configuration file. What USB drive ?
Can you please add more info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?
Thanks for the broken link notice, we'll try to fix it.
