I have some pc-engine roms (amongst other console roms) that Skyscraper will not find on ScreenScraper.fr even though the files in my pc-engine collection are verified against no-intro.

      https://datomatic.no-intro.org/?page=show_record&s=12&n=0197

For example, my "Legendary Axe II (USA).zip" file contains the rom of the same name (except of course the .pce extension). The SHA1 hash of the .pce file matches what is shown here: https://www.screenscraper.fr/rominfos.php?romid=172164, however the file name on Screenscraper.fr is LEGENDARY AXE II, THE (USA).PCE which is different.

Is there a way to tell Skyscraper to compare the hashes of the roms rather than comparing the file names?...as it seems that the Screenscraper.fr databases don't agree with the no-intro databases in all cases.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

This is what Skyscraper actually does - when searching the ScreenScraper site, it queries by the file's hash, not by the name. With your example, the .pce ROM is scraped fine:

However the .zip file is not matched, because it has a different checksum. You can use the --unpack option for Skyscraper to unzip the file first or just unpack your ROMs.

Are you using Skyscraper from the command line or from the RetroPie-Setup script ?

hi mitu, thanks for your response, I'm using skyscraper from the retropie-setup script.

So what I don't understand is that all my pc-engine roms are zipped, so why would skyscraper have a problem with just two of my pc-engine roms and not the other ones? Since they were all zipped by romcenter on my computer, surely none of the zip file hashes match.

          Thanks in advance.

In the past my PCEngine titles that were no-intro got scraped fine. This time around, I made new systems for the USA/Japan variants of each system. So I have a PCEngine, and TurboGrafx16 system in my ES setup. Some of the games scraped, but not all of them. I did notice the scraper (SSelph) did hang up on there, and wondered if it was because I have the TG16 in a separate folder...

That said, other systems did OK. Some scraped perfectly. I have a Sega System 3 (Master System) folder that has all my Japan ROMS and that one only partially scraped, as did the Master System. Not sure if it is related to my setup, or if maybe there are just some systems it has trouble scraping. The Genesis one did OK, few missing but could just not be available.

What I am noticing though, is that the missing art usually appears in blocks or clusters, which in my eyes says that there is an issue with accessing the database as the system goes through each file in order. If it times out, it moves on.

Have you changed your file names at all? I removed the (USA) and all that junk from all my ROMs because I was just displaying titles rather than trying to get stuff playing nice. Unfortunately I needed a gamelist.xml and couldnt figure out how without scraping. I've never tried unpacking before scraping but wonder if this is worth trying today. Does only Skyscraper offer this?

Maybe those 2 zip files and their hashes are not added to ScreenScraper's database.
