Fullsize loading screen in raspbian install?

I am wondering if there is a way, when RetroPie is installed over Raspbian with desktop enabled to make the loading screen for roms full screen so it doesn’t show the desktop
Behind a windowed load screen. Super nit-picky, I know. I know running RP without desktop enabled will do this, but am wondering if there’s a way to trick it to look similar when launched from the desktop enabled OS. I did try booting direct to RP, but it screwed up my HDMI when I didn’t load the desktop before launching emulationstation.
