I am trying to fix my dads old arcade machine. Made the mistake of buying a raspberry pi 4. I need to rotate the screen, but have had no luck with the following...

      • display_rotate
      • list itemdisplay_hdmi_rotate
      • lcd_rotate
      • xrandr stuff

I can order a pi3, but I would rather not spend any more money on this, if I don't have to lol

        The Pi4 has a limitation w.r.t. screen rotation - it doesn't support 90º or 270º rotations unless you're using a X11 desktop environment:

If using the VC4 FKMS V3D driver (this is the default on the Raspberry Pi 4), then 90 and 270 degree rotations are not supported. The Screen Configuration utility provides display rotations for this driver.

This seems like a major flaw to me. I think every time I have used a pi, it has been in portrait mode. So, we are going to have to wait for retropi to make a setting to flip it without driver support then, right?

You can already do this - rotate both EmulationStation or the emulators' videoport (when using RetroArch).
