ROM Full Name, Gamelist
-
Hi. Before running the scraper, ROMs would list in Emulationstaion like this...
Mortal Kombat (Rev2) (1995)
Mortal Kombat (Rev3) (1995)... the above is an example how all games would look. After scraping, I literally just get this...
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat... I can't see then revision or any other details which som ROMs would show. I want to see the details in the gamelist. Is there a way to change back to rhis format?

You could remove the gamelist, but otherwise unless the scraping source knows to differentiate between ROMs, their name (title) will be the same once you scrape it.

Are you using the scraper built into ES? You should try skyscraper, it has much more functionality.

I am using Skyscraper for this and have tried various options ie, using filename rather than source name and also disabling the "brackets" option and then regenerating the gamelist but none of this works.
I opened the gamelist XML in nano and removed some of the
<name></name> entries and this worked in putting the gamelist titles back to giving all the full details whilst maintaining the screenshots, videos etc. So, I will create a PHP script to do this en-mass for all games. I'll post the script here for anyone to use if useful when done... I hope tonight. -
After thinking, PHP would maybe be overkill for this.
Inside directory
/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/arcade
I ran the following
sed -i "/<name>\|<\/name>/d" gamelist.xml
And this has removed the name tages from the file and given me the full revisions, I guess what is in the ROM itself. Seems ok for now but some games don't give great names in the ROM file so, i'll look into creating a something for all script at some point but, I am happy for now and maybe, by time I get round to it the actual Skyscraper has built something in to do this (??)

The names of the ROMsets - with revisions - are taken from MAME's dat files. EmulationStation automatically 'translates' the
.zip
short names to the actual title names as given my MAME (see here). I don't think Skyscraper would know about this translation (yet, anyway). -
Hi mitu. Good info. Gives me an idea after all.
Also, being a moderator would you mind fixing the code quotes in my previous post? Sorry... when trying to edit it is saying I am spam.
