Epic Noir - Dark Mode Theme
-
@Sheyk90 Im not familiarized with recalbox so I dont know how to do it, maybe someone who knows about could help
-
@GeekOB I believe you are referring to the button labels from EmulationStation. If so, try turning them off in UI Settings by turning selecting "On-screen Help" to "off"

i was trying 2 ES version for windows and i cant really make this works.

Looks like an issue with the theme installation or the theme's files.
-
@AkiAfroo I had those two problems, the font one was caused by the size, which is already solved, and the other due the low vram dedicated to emulation station, also I had to split the memory up to 512 mb on my pi
-
@chicuelo @mitu thanks for the quick response,
I discovered that the problem apart from the low ram was the size of my monitor (27 "2k res) but... if i add this parameters at the end of the shortcut ...\emulationstation.exe
for 720p---> perfect!
--resolution 1280 720for 1080p --> perfect!
--resolution 1920 1080
https://i.postimg.cc/HsXn3vZG/screenshot-12.pngfor 2k (2560 × 1440) with and without this parameters
appears the glitches that i posted beforein my second 24" (1920x1080) monitor works out-the-box - without those parameters.
my question is... , the theme need to be rebuild to works to this res or i just need to change some parameters to make it works in my 2560 × 1440 monitor ?
and thanks to all of you guys.

@chicuelo
A 16:9 for example has 1920x1080 while 16:10 has 1920:1200. 16:10 is more compatible with 4:3 Games because the distortion is lesser. -
@AkiAfroo Its designed in 1920x1080!
-
@SchwarzBrot I understand, but it is easier to stretch the conntent than adapting the whole theme again just to reach that similar ratio
-
@chicuelo ok, i will add the --resolution 1920 1080 to my shortcut.
gracias chicuelo!
-
@gomisensei you were totally right. Thanks for pointing that out!
@chicuelo and @nil06 are you planning on expanding support for additional systems and collections? -
@GeekOB Yes, we actually support 88 systems and most collections, wich ones would you love to have?
-
How about:
- amigacd32
- snescd
Do you plan on making arts for specific theme-oriented collections like starwars, disney, etc?
Thanks! -
@Sheyk90 I had a look at the Recalbox project and from what I can tell it is just a remix of the retropie/emulationstation distribution.
Basically on all such systems (Retropie, batocera, Recalbox etc) it goes a bit like this:- OS --> Linux, Windows, MacOS
- Emulator engine --> Retroarch
- EmulationStation --> Graphical UI front end
- Retropie, Batocera, Recalbox --> Collections of readymade config scripts for easy installation of the emulator engines & ES front end.
As such, Epic Noir is a theme for the EmulationStation and not for retropie, batocera or recalbox. Since Recalbox is using Emulationstation as a frontend, this theme should work just fine on Recalbox too.
You need to find the location of EmulationStation's theme folder on your computer (eg /etc/emulationstation/themes) and drop the Epic Noir folder in there. Then the new theme should appear on the options menu inside ES.
If it doesn't work, you can send me the default theme of Recalbox to see if there are differences and we can adapt it as needed.

Not necessarily - the front-end (EmulationStation) has different versions in Recalbox/RetroPie (or Batocera). Each project has its own fork of the original codebase, to which new features have been added.
I remember that some of the themes for RetroPie's version would not work on Recalbox's fork of EmulationStation. -
@mitu True, but unless I missed something, on Recalbox's current wiki they specifically mention using Aloshi's ES which happens to be the master branch of ES. https://github.com/Aloshi/EmulationStation
Frontend based on the great EmulationStation2 by Aloshi
-
@nil06 Both projects forked that version - which is unmaintained now for several years - and added new features, including new theme elements and views.
-
@mitu You are right. I just now noticed the last updates done on the ES branch.
Even like this though, the forked codes seem to be very similar to one another. Especially when it comes to the themes, they are pretty much interchangeable.I had a quick look at Recalbox theme's main xml code and the elements and structure are the same. With a few adjustments the current theme should work OOB. @Sheyk90 how about you give it a try and report back?
-
@nil06 One thing that it might not be supported by Recalbox is theme variables, which I think your theme uses (i.e.
${system.theme}
). -
