N64-Controller, D-Pad & Analogue Stick recognized as the same
-
Heyho guys n' girls,
i got two N64 Controllers today.
I bought these ones -> http://www.ebay.de/itm/2x-NINTENDO-N64-CLASSIC-GAMES-GAMEPAD-REGLER-FUR-USB-zu-PC-MAC-schwarz-/201609425643?hash=item2ef0dbb2eb:g:jBgAAOSwPhdU9WlxThe problem is, that the D-Pad and the analogue stick are recognized as the same input. Is there a common solution for this problem ?
Greetings

It's interesting reading about the many different foibles that these types of controllers possess. I actually enjoy finding a work around to their eccentricities, but with this particular problem, I wouldn't hold out much hope. If two sets of control input identify as being identical to each other, there's really nothing that can be done to separate them. You're only chance is if this occurrence is just happening at the joystick event space and not at the device event space.
If you want to check this, you can drop to the command line from Emulation Station by pressing 'F4' on your keyboard and type:
evtest /dev/input/event0
Press 'enter' and wait for the text output to finish. Then, press a button on your controller. If you don't get any feedback, press 'ctrl+c' to return to the command line where you will repeat the last command, changing only the last number from '0' to '1'. Continue this with a higher number until you get feedback from your controller. Once you do, you'll want to press 'up' on your analog stick and then on your Dpad. Take note of the feedback you're getting. Continue this with all directions just to be sure. If the feedback you're getting from the Dpad and stick for each direction is indeed identical from this test, then I'm afraid there is nothing to be done. When you are finished, exit the test by pressing 'ctrl+c' and then type:
emulationstation
Press 'enter' and wait for ES to load.

Hi,
sorry for my late reply.
When you answered i already found an "alternate" solution.
I already bought two other controllers.I tried your solution yesterday, the commands did what they are supposed too...but the controller didn't :D
D-pad and analoge stick are using exactly the same "path".
Very sad, but thanks anyway :)

Always an elegant solution. Glad things are working now.
