Using pi4 and latest retropie 4.6 I have retropie and all my roms installed on a large 256gb sd card. All configs setup like my remaps, themes, custom configs.

I would like to no longer use my 256gb card and have all my roms on a usb drive
and just a small 16gb sdcard with retropie system on.

I understand Pi4 with retropie that it doesnt support usb boot feature yet so having an sd card with retropie and usb with roms seems a good idea for now.

If the boot feature was an option I think like on pi3 i could just backup my 256gb to an image on my pc then use etcher to write the image to usb.

I've read the official retropie guide for transferring roms and auto-mount which seems like the best method.

But My problem will be the retropie configs.

I'm not sure on this but I think the only way I can do this is by the following,

Insert usb drive big enough to copy all my roms on

make a fresh install of Retropie 4.6 on a 16gb sdcard

Backing up all my configs from my current 256gb setup

then transferring all the configs i done like game remaps etc to the 16gb card

the boot retropie with the new 16gb setup and attach my usb with roms.

Please let me know if this is the best option?
