Delay scrolling of game description (synopsis)
-
Hi!
Feature Request: xml tag to control the speed / timing of how game descriptions scroll in the game selection menu.
Text scrolls when a game description is too long to fit the display which is great, but the scroll starts immediately meaning the top line is often gone before it can be read. Similarly when it reaches the end, it very quickly snaps back to the start making it hard to finish the paragraph.
I like reading these! It would be great to be able to control start/speed/reset parameters or even just delay the scroll longer.
Searching this forum I see this request is here a few times over the years, but the current solution is a workaround modifying each game's synopsis in the gamelist.xml to create padding in the line breaks - it would be really nice to have an in-built solution!
Thanks for your help and stay well all!

I agree, its annoying

@jimiga hi friend
its something many wantits supposedly should have a 5" start delay but i havent noticed this
its hardcoded and need recompile with diff settings
tried but no luck so far -
As a workaround, I developed a console command to add x empty lines at the beginning of every game's description text some time ago. See here.
Three posts after that, you'll find a command (and some explanations about how it works) to add x lines to the end of the description to "pause" its restart a bit.

FWIW it is currently only in the development branch of emulationstation.
Leave Emulationstation.
ssh with accountpi
to your pie:sudo su cd Retropie-Setup
Then you will have to do the "three chord":
./retropie_packages.sh emulationstation-dev sources #1 ./retropie_packages.sh emulationstation-dev build #2 ./retropie_packages.sh emulationstation-dev install #3
If you want to adjust the delay do use this line before proceeding to step 2 and 3.
