      Are they compatible?

      Been through all the settings and have searched on here but 7n is too short a word!

        Would it help if I told you they're 7z not 7n?

          I dont think of any of the emulators within RetroPie support .7z.
          The .zip format is supported quite often though.

          You can see which emulator supports which extension by checking the Wiki here:
