@Floob yes, I did. The only thing I am wondering why it does not boot, if is there an OS on the retropie image? I have an 8 GiG SD card, with previously Raspian on it. But I had to format the SD card to make the image-file fit.
Otherwise I just followed all the steps... -
@Belum are you downloading the correct img file for the raspberry pi 2?
-
even the wrong image would boot up (Emulationstation would crash).
I suspect it's an issue with an SD card, the PSU, or the image was not correctly written.
-
@edmaul69 Yes, I think so. I clicked on the download link for the Raspberry Pi 2/3 on the RetroPie download site.
-
@Belum What is the power rating on your PSU?
Do you have a different micro SD card you could try?I'm assuming you have a 2B ?

@BuZz How can I check that?
Concerning the SD-card: I used the SD-formatter. How can I check if this was done proper? Before I did that I formatted it with the Windows Disk Manager, my computer did not recognize it because I had to give it a letter first, I choose randomly Z://, than my computer recognized it. However, I read it was better to format it with the SD-formatter... so I did.
Concerning the PSU: my mouse that is connected to the Raspberry-Pi will light up, so it is getting power via the unit.
Concerning the image: I wrote it with Win32Disk. How can I check if an image was written proper? -
@Floob Yes, I have the type B. This it says on my PSU: Raspberry PI Voeding adapter 2A - output 5.0V - 2000mA. Well I have to go on a stroll through the house to see whether I can find myself a new SD-card :). Or order a new one :)
I now currently have a Transcend SCHC 10 8 GiG card. -
@Belum this is a stupid question but in win32diskimager did you choose read or write? If you chose read then not only did you not put the img on but you made your img a blank img. I know, stupid bu i thought id ask
-
@edmaul69 thank you for thinking with me... but yes, I only hit the 'write' button ;)
-
If you had a previous image on the SD card (Win32 Disk Imager will fail) or just to be sure it's entirely erased you might try Diskpart before formatting it with SD Formatter. You would need to run it from a Command Prompt. I always use Diskpart before SD Formatter and then Win32 Disk Imager.
- Run a command prompt
diskpart
list disk
select disk #
(# is the disk you want to erase)clean
-
@Riverstorm Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it, but still no difference. So I just ordered a new SD-card, to see whether that is the problem....
-
@Riverstorm i use EaseUS partition master to format cards for pi. It also fixes the partition problem retropie img creates. Really easy to use.
Just know that windows cannot format an sd card that has been formatted for retropie with the built in windows program.

Exactly my thought when she has posted she attempted a Windows format. I figured Diskpart is just part of the OS and no need to look for 3rd party software. Thank you I do keep a copy of EaseUS Partition Master handy. It's a nice program. :)
-
@edmaul69 I used MiniTool Partition Wizard 9.1 afterwards - Is that in the same range as Easy US?
-
@Belum if i am overwriting one pi img with another i dont even format and never have a problem. so anything that can undo the partitioning should be fine.

Yes, that one should work fine too.
@edmaul69 It's almost out of habit to format and align the partition. :)
-
Well I guess I am waiting with excitement on my new SD-card... fingers crossed!
Its weird though that this SD-card functioned properly when Raspbian was still on it. -
Are the power lights on the raspberry?
Even though you have a black screen, does it flicker when you turn the device on? (as in the TV has detected something plugged in has been turned on)
-
@KiloPIE No, getting the red light. So no flickering and nothing green :(.
-
i did get a bad raspberry pi that did the same as not recognizing data on sd card. red light but nothing. returned it, put the card in another one and it booted right up..
