Core 2 duo PC built in an Arcade 1up. using USB encoders for controls.

<First off Im a moron,> I had everything running fine and wanted to add Daphne to my arcade. However I didnt realize that on an x86 Daphne does not show up in experimental builds. So Like a genius i wiped everything, fresh install of Ubuntu, Then fresh install of retropie. Now i cant install MAME 2016. Im 99% sure I had it before and used it to play KI. MAME 2010 plays KI but the mapping of my controls is all screwed up. Using TAB to set up controls, and MAME 2010 does not recognize my player 2. But retropie took it no problem. I dont know whats going on.

anyways, I have seen the other threads about replacing the script txt to Menion2k

Im getting the same fault, it looks like it downloads all the files into the temp build folder, but then it crashes and cant find the mamearcade_libretro.so

why does this have to be so difficult?

      thanks for the help

Every installation from the RetroPIe-Setup menu has a corresponding log in $HOME/RetroPie-Setup/logs. Open the most recent log - corresponding to your failed installation - and post its contents on pastebin.com to see the actual error.

And please add more details about your setup, as asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

                    arcade@arcade-OptiPlex-780:~$ python -v

Command 'python' not found, but can be installed with:

                    sudo apt install python3
                    sudo apt install python
                    sudo apt install python-minimal

You also have python3 installed, you can run 'python3' instead.

                    arcade@arcade-OptiPlex-780:~$

So I need Python, not Python 3????
