Retropie 4.6 new image issues - notifications and video previews
-
I downloaded the new Retropie 4.6 image last weekend and I am running on a pi 3. Once it was written to an SD card and running I ran the update option. I then loaded up the roms and configured the shaders and bezels as normal. I have 2 issues with the new image - one of which I have fixed but I have listed it here in case anybody else has the same issue.
- The snap/video previews of the games cause the pi to lock up totally. On selecting a system I get the sound of the video of the first game for a few seconds but no video image. Then the pi locks up and has to powered off. No controller or keyboard presses do anything.
I fixed this by going into the emulation station settings (other settings) and turned "use omx player (hw accelerated)" from OFF to ON. This then played the video previews as normal with no locking up problems.
- Notifications cause the screen to be truncated. All the systems were working perfectly with bezels and crt shader. On some systems I need to switch the A and B buttons. On doing this I get a 2nd notification on starting a game. The first for the bezel override. The next for the remap override. After the 2nd notification the screen is truncated to a narrow area on the left (about the same width and same location as the notification). The rest of the screen is black. And so as only a small part of the game screen is visible, the game is unplayable.
I carried on just using the other systems which worked fine. I then enabled achievements. This generates more notifications and again many times the screen image is truncated to a narrow area on the left leaving it totally unplayable.
This means that I can't remap any controls or use achievements on the new Retropie 4.6 image.
Has anybody else got this problem? Has anyone found a solution?

Both issues have been reported in the forums. For the 1. issue, you can use
omxplayer
instead ofvlc
(it's a VLC issue), for 2. there's an issue opened upstream (RetroArch), but there's no solution besides disabling the new style notifications (Menu Widgets).
