Retropie 4.6 on Pi4 with 4 GB RAM - N64 Laggy
-
Hello, I'm running Ocarina of Time on my pi4 and it's pretty laggy. Would overclocking help? My guess is that it isn't a clock rate issue, so I wanted to ask for advice from anyone who has dealt with this before. If overclocking would help, then I have just pretty basic heat sinks and a fan rather than an elaborate cooling system so IDK if that's a problem.
PS I checked the documentation for n64 on this site but couldn't find any info that helped with this issue.

@matthew1031 which emulator are you using? Try mupen64plus-gliden64. Also make sure that the hybrid filter option is turned off in your mupen64plus.cfg. Its located at /opt/retropie/configs/n64/

I'm using whichever emulator is the default for the 4.6 image since I just put it together a couple of days ago. Which one is used by default and how do I change it to mupen64plus-gliden64? Sorry for the noob questions.
I opened up mupen64plus.cfg and I'm not seeing a hybrid filter option. Here are the options I see:
[Video-General]
VerticalSync = True
[Video-GLideN64]
configVersion = 17
bilinearMode = 1
EnableFBEmulation = True
UseNativeResolutionFactor = 1
EnableLegacyBlending = True
ThreadedVideo = True
BufferSwapMode = 2 -
I was having a lot of trouble with lag on almost all the games I tried, I found out the reason was the pi 4 have set the resolution to output at 4k, I changed this to 720 & now find most games are running fine

@matthew1031 it's possible that the relevant section of the config doesn't populate until you launch a game first. So launch Zelda and when the gray box pops up press a button repeatedly until the runcommand menu opens. From there you can change the default emulator.

@dave5322 noob question: how do i change the resolution?
-
@quicksilver ty i will try that

Followed both of your guys' advice. Works perfectly now, thanks!
