lr-race for Neo Geo Pocket/Neo Geo Pocket Color
-
@celly Yes, you just copy it there, then you'll be able to install
lr-race
from the experimental packages section. -
@mitu well I ftp's the file to the libretrocores folder and it crashes the RetroPie Setup before opening.
Saying that the lr-race.sh is missing valid rp_module_desc. I'll give lr-fbneo a spin right quick after I remove the file. -

How did you save the file ? Make sure you download it via https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cmitu/RetroPie-Setup/new-race-ngp/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-race.sh. I have a recent RetroPie-Setup installation and I'm able to install it fine.
-
@mitu same way. Looks like I didn’t get it all first shot. Got it now but, I have to wait for lr-fbneo to finish updating from source to try it.
-
@celly i don't expect fbneo to run ngp at full speed on pi0
-
Mitu’s race.sh did not work again, idk whats up there. And after what seemed like forever updating from source, Lr-fbneo doesn’t want to load any roms.
I’m on stretch so it’s not an underlining issue there. It’s cool guy, I appreciate you helping out. I can still play these on my Pi3 no problem. -

Did not work how? Did it build lr-race successfully? Or is it quiting when you try launching a ROM?
-
@quicksilver I ftp the race.sh file over to my GPi Case, in the correct directory. Then restart ES. Then try and open Retro-Pie Setup and it throws up an error and kicks me back to ES. Don’t know why. And the only way to get Setup to start again is to remove the file that I put in there.
-
Okay I got it working now. I wasn't saving it correctly, thought I needed to copy it all and save it to another blank doc then rename as the .sh. Never mind, all good. And yeah, lr-race plays like sh@t just like lr-beetle-ngp. The pi zero just isn't powerful or the cores aren't updated to work with it. Thanks @Mitu, @barbudreadmon and @quicksilver. I'll just play these on original hardware if I want to take it on the go.

lr-fbneo uses romsets (see https://github.com/libretro/FBNeo/tree/master/src/burner/libretro#emulating-consoles), but again i don't think it would play nice on pi0.
the fact lr-race doesn't play nice or even any better than beetle is weird, lr-race is optimized for psp (which i believe is less powerful than a pi0), maybe its dynarec(s?) were disabled or something ?
-
@mitu i took a look at the core makefiles, there is an optional
DRZ80=1
which seems to turn on something that looks like an arm dynarec. -
@barbudreadmon Thanks, it looks like this may add some speed-up.
@celly if you want to re-test with the new added option, you can re-download the scriptmodule and re-install (from source). -
-
@mitu Ok I grabbed the file again and then updated from source. Now after I launch a game, it kicks me back to Emulationstation. I’ll get the log file if you want but at this point, I’m over it. Thank you for all your help, I appreciate it.
-
I actually didn't test the new build option in-game. I'll give it a test later on, no need to send the log. Thanks for testing it.
-
-
@celly This is almost identical to the script I posted in the first place. There's no discernible difference that I can see.
-
@mitu a typo at https://github.com/cmitu/RetroPie-Setup/blob/new-race-ngp/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-race.sh#L41 ? (rac_libretro.so)
-
@barbudreadmon Hehe, good catch. Fixed now.
@celly are you sure you've tested
lr-race
and not one of the other cores ? -
@mitu yeah, pretty sure. I’ve tested them all that were available for this emulator, lr-bettle and fbneo.
