Sega model 3 #segamodel3

@mechafatnick said in Sega model 3 #segamodel3:
Sorry, i was distracted by the pinball bartop i've been setting up (it makes mame configuration look easy! :D )
The automated resolution is a good idea in theory, but my only worry is that our hardware can't really handle going far beyond the Model 3's native res.
I worry that the average user is going to think they can't run it above something like 640 x 480 wheh in reality you can have it look ok and run ok by rendering low and stretching.
If you don't set a resolution when booting the emulator, it will use the regular resolution. But if you do it will take that resolution.
I would recommend to test it first.
If doesn't work we can always revert it back to the original 3 lines. -
Is daytona 2 playable now? If so I will try the model 3 emulator on my pi. But that it runs at all is still awesome.
-
-
@folly
Thats awesome! -
Try my module-script, let me know how it goes.
-
Is the file "supermodel-mechafatnick.sh" all i need to get it to install? I have tried the instructions on mechafatnicks site, but couldn't get it to work. I just read that it needs a lib2 dev upgrade, that and a typo where the folder in the roms was wrong spelled didn't let me go further.
I think i will delete everything i have done so far and just use your script "supermodel-mechafatnick.sh"
-
The "supermodel-mechafatnick.sh" is all you need and should be fine.
-
it didnt start
here is the log:

Hi,
I removed my earlier post.Indeed, I discovered that the latest version seems to have an issue with the auto-resolution when running the normal way.
I have to investigate why it isn't working the way it should. Can you de-install the latest version and then install this older version ? :
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/FollyMaddy/RetroPie-Share/bcc1bfb9ef00ded0b060f70df06d10c6660f07f1/00-scriptmodules-00/emulators/supermodel-mechafatnick.shIt will produce 3 lines in emulators.cfg with different resolution.
I hope this will work for you.

thank you, now i could choose a resolution, howeever it didnt run the game. here is the log:

I can't directly see what wrong.
It looks like the same log from earlier.
I would expect to see some-res
parts for the resolution but I don't see that.Do you use a pi4 ?
Is the binary of supermodel in this directory :/opt/retropie/emulators/supermodel-mechafatnick
? -
-
Good suggesting.
I am confident it should run one way or another.
After you did the permission part.
Can you then check if you can run the binary manually ?cd /opt/retropie/emulators/supermodel-mechafatnick ./supermodel
You should then get the help/usage output of the emulator and then we know the binary is working.
-
thanks for all the help
the bin is not here:
/opt/retropie/emulators/how do i get it there? i thought the script would do it on its own.
and yes im using a pi4
-
its in the supplementary folder. i will change its location now.
after changing the location daytona 2 is running. but super slow about 20% of original speed. is there a way to make it faster? the audio works great though.
-
In what directory, of the RetroPie-Setup, did you paste the supermodel-mechafatnick.sh module-script ?
I think you have accidentally pasted it in the wrong supplementary directory, am I correct ?
Before installation you have to paste it in :
/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/emulators
.For increasing speed you can try to select a low resolution for the emulator in the retropie-startup menu (in the same menu where you select the launch option).
The resolution selected there should match the selected launch option.
But you have to take it for granted, it will always be a bit slower than a good x86/x86-64 computer. -
@folly It shouldn't be that slow though :)
I suggest keeping at the native res and stretching it. The super-duper long course causes stutters and slowdowns, but the rest should run reasonably nippily
-
Yes i have plaved it under supplementary, because before i have installed yabasanshiro and i had to place the script under supplementary. I thought that was the normal way (im a nooby).
What exactly do you mean with launch resolution? The resolution of the supermodel emulator? I had that at the lowest all the time. (396 pixel i think)
Now I've changed the global resolution of retropie to 480. At least the game is now full screen but still slow as hell. Every daytona 2 game seconds lasts 5 real seconds. I don't think you have the same low performance.
I have just tried scud racer. It doesn't start. The in game bios says no network and the game doesn't launch.
Btw Daytona 2 steering is really great with an arcade sticks.
-
Indeed it works quite smooth on my end.
I meant the "video mode" (aka "launch resolution").
But it seems you already discovered that. For scud you have to go into the test-menu with key 6.
With key 5 you can go to options and with key 6 you can select an option.
Go to -> "game assignments" -> "link id" -> "single" (not master)
Go to "exit" for exiting the test menu.
Now scud will work in single mode. For speeding things up you should ask @mechafatnick, because he has more experience with that part, I think.

@phialek can you post your run command log?
