So I am brand spanking new to all of this and have no idea what I'm doing but followed this link to get everything setup for retropie. https://www.pcworld.com/article/3190347/how-to-build-a-raspberry-pi-retrogaming-emulation-console.html

The problem is that my d pad works when I'm in retropie but not in my games that I've downloaded. Would appreciate some insight.

Please add some info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

Did you configure your gamepad in EmulationStation ? What games are you running - where the D-Pad doesn't work ?

Check if you have press the MODE button in the controller. If it is enable (you will see a green light) you are using left analog stick as a d-pad and the actual one doesn't work during the games.

Check also the small switch under the gamepad, it must be in the "x" position.

My English isn't at a good level.
