Sorry for not reading and for not posting on the forum first :(((((

I like to keep things tidy and clean whenever possible. Therefore I removed any directory in the roms/configs locations I'm not using. I end up with something like 13 directories (snes, nes, megadrive, etc). Though anytime I update RP via the script (item Update Retropie-Setup script), the 2 following directories keep from being created under configs:

      • dreamcast
      • ports

I have to delete those after the update. Please note that of course in case of a full update of RP (Manage >> Update all packages) more directories come back (all ?? need to check that) and have to be removed.

Not a big issue obviously :)

      RPI 2
      RP 4.0 beta 3
steps to reproduce: delete unused directories say like dreamcast and ports in both configs and roms locations. Make sure reicast is not installed (reicast not installed nor any ports), update RP via the script. directories will be recreated under configs.

the dreamcast configs folder will be recreated when mapping a controller, as it creates a file in there whether the emulator is installed or not, but the roms folder shouldn't be recreated unless the emulator is re-installed.

I removed reicast emulator and removed roms/dreamcast, then updated all installed packages, and it didn't reappear here.

you're absolutely right. I've edited my previous post as it concerned only the directory under configs. Under roms the directory never comes back. thanks!

That is by design currently. Just ignore them :-)
