Still can't get controller to work
-
Hey fellas, I'm back again.
When I first posted here, I had an 8bitdo m30 2.4 gigahertz controller. I have returned that one and picked up the Bluetooth version which I heard works better with retropie.I have also taken everyone's suggestion here and started completely fresh. No more arcade Punk loaded images. I downloaded retropie version 4.6 from the official site and still can't get my 8bitdo controller to work.
I have managed to pair it but it still will not work in menus or games. I was told that if I did a fresh install that this would solve my problems... but unfortunately it hasn't.
I really need some help here because I love this controller and don't want to return it again.I'm getting dangerously close to just going out and buying a Genesis Mini or SNES Mini. I had no idea that configuring a controller was this crazy and baffling.
I honestly need step by step instructions because I'm going crazy trying to figure this out! I think I need to do something in retroarch configuration but it's all Greek to me.I'm running raspberry Pi 3 b+ if you need to know that.
Thanks. 😎

What exactly doesn't work ?
Did you pair the controller via Bluetooth before attempting to configure it in EmulationStation ? -

Did you pair the controller via Bluetooth before attempting to configure it in EmulationStation ?I had to set up the keyboard in order to get access to the Bluetooth settings. once I was able to get inside the Bluetooth settings I did manage to pair the controller correctly. At first I tried holding b and start (android mode) and when that didn't work I tried doing y + start which enables pro controller. I had more success with this one.
The controller only worked in the retropie setup by allowing me to go up or down.
I couldn't even select cancel to get out.
Had to use keyboard to escape. What am I doing wrong?

You should be able to configure the controller via the "input configuration" option in the main menu.
Alternatively, disconnect your keyboard, then turn on the system and the controller. Because nothing else is connected and the controller not configured yet, the input configuration dialogue should turn up automatically.
As the m30 is paired now, it should be detected by the input configuration either way.
Since you've got the pi3: instead of the genesis mini, you could also consider installing the Blast16 frontend (or the Sneses frontend instead of the snes mini) - blast16 is specifically designed to automatically detect 8bitdo's bluetooth m30 and work perfectly with it.

Thanks for all the help guys. I finally got it to work yesterday. Seems I forgot to go back and configure the controller once the Bluetooth was set up. I just use the keyboard to bring up controller input and everything was good after that.
Thanks a bunch! 👍
