Detailed View Scroll Speed is Super Slow

I've been away for a while, but my system died recently, so I've been setting it up from scratch.

(I had to re-teach myself how this all worked, it's been that long)

I have an issue with scrolling the gamelists. If I use Basic view, the scrolling works as it's supposed to (press the down button and it instantly goes down to the next game on the list), however, if I switch to Detailed view it can take anywhere from 1-5 seconds before it moves down to the next item in the list.

I have each system set up with a single image and all the metadata.

I'm guessing the Pi is having trouble displaying the images, maybe taking time to load them. I didn't have this issue with my old system, so I'm wondering if I used to have some kind of overclock or something set up (it was at least 2 years ago, probably more).

I'm using the default Carbon theme, off a fresh install. I'm also pulling the roms from a NAS drive (I followed the official docs to set it up), which I suppose could go towards it, but the old system did that too without issue.

Has anyone come across this issue, or can tell me how to fix it?

Do you have your artwork on the same NAS folder ? What access method have you used to mount it (CIFS/NFS) ? Are you using the latest version (4.6) ? Did you enable the Search for Local Art option in EmulationStation ?

Pi Model: 3B
Power Supply used: Official Pi power cable
RetroPie Version Used: v4.6 from https://retropie.org.uk/download/
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website - retropie-buster-4.6-rpi2_rpi3.img.gz
USB Devices connected: keyboard, mouse, pc remote, controller
Controller used: no-name brand SNES controller from ebay
Error messages received: none (that I'm aware of)

Yes. The file structure is basically:

/nes
  /artwork
    game1.jpg
    game2.jpg
  game1.rom
  game2.rom

Uhh... whatever it says in the documentation I suppose. It says "cifs" in the docs, so I guess that what is being used. I don't know what that is.

I'm not sure what this is, or where I'd find it.

The images show fine, it just takes a long time to cycle between them in the Detailed view.

(scrolling left and right between systems works smoothly, and scrolling up and down between games works smoothly, so I don't think it's an issue with a dodgy controller)

@mitu Sooo... it turns out the issue was pretty much just connection speed.

I was comparing the speed to my old setup, but neglected to take into consideration that while my old setup was plugged into the network via a cable, my new setup is using WIFI, while I build it in a different area of the house.

I feel a tad foolish.

I plugged the new system into the TV, connected the network cable and turned it on, and the scrolling happened nice and smooth, as it should.

Glad you sorted out. WiFi vs. wired was an idea, but I thought your setup was identical so maybe WiFi speed was different. Did you discover this by accident :) ?

One of those forehead slap moments. I was trying to think about what might be different between the setups (except for about 3 years of RetroPie development) when I realised the cable/wifi thing.

I'm glad I worked it out, because my next option was to undo the NAS and put everything on the micro-sd, but the one I'm using isn't big enough, so I'd have to get a bigger one and go through the hassle of moving everything over, etc. Glad I don't have to do that.
