As I know, my theme can run on some recent Retropie configs, but it's a bit laggy on RPI,

Have you actually tested it on RetroPie or did you use something like Batocera or Recalbox ?

Is there a way to use system images instead of videos on the systems view?

@mitu I'm using a portable version of EmulationStation (like Retrobat).
I don't have tested yet on RPI OS (Recalbox, Retropie, ...) but I've already have some feedbacks and it's a bit laggy on RPI. A solution is to convert all HD videos to 720p ;)

@HurricaneFan Yes, you have to edit the theme.xml.
I think you just have too delete this tag entry :

            <video name="md_video" extra="true">
                  <path>./_assets/backgrounds/${system.theme}.mp4</path>
            	  <tile>false</tile>
                  <color>FFFFFFFF</color>
                 <origin>0 0</origin>
            		<pos>0 0</pos>
            		<size>1 1</size>
                  <maxSize>1 1</maxSize>
                  <delay>0</delay>
            	  <showSnapshotNoVideo>true</showSnapshotNoVideo>
            	<showSnapshotDelay>true</showSnapshotDelay>
             </video>

And change the background image to a dynamique background :

            Search for :

            <path>./_assets/system-global-bg.png</path>

            And change it to :

            <path>./_assets/backgrounds/${system.theme}.png</path>

Of course, you have to add background images in the right folder ;)

RetroBat uses @f-caruso's EmulationStation fork, which is different than the fork used in RetroPie.

I think your theme is not compatible with RetroPie's EmulationStation fork and will not work in RetroPie as is.

@mitu As I know, the theme is compatible with RPI, but I don't know if it's on Retropie or Recalbox, the EmulationStation fork have to be compatible with videos on systems view, that's right.

I've created PNG files to replace the videos for all system selection screens, so now it's RetroPie compatible (I called it Nostalgia Pure Lite). @Frakatchoo, let me know if you'd like me to upload it somewhere so that you can link it on your first post above.
There's a few systems missing still like AmigaCD32, Channel F, openbor, TI99 and PSP Minis, I went to the Launchbox forums links you specified but still couldn't find them.

@GeekOB That's awsome ! I'm interested by your "Nostalgia Pure Lite" version ! I'm currently stuck with Showcase theme and I'd like to upgrade to something more... aesthetically up to date.

All the systems you are talking about (CD32,Channel F,Openbor,...) are available and downloadable from the launchbox forum.

Will this actually work on a Rpi4 8gb via Retropie latest 4.6.x build?

The important factor is the version of Emulationstation

Will it work on the official ES that comes with Retropie 4.6 ?

                                  No.

it will only work on a Fork of Emulationstation that supports videos on system view.

The idea of replacing system view videos with png images was something I read up in a previous post on this thread! I wasn’t sure if this was implemented in the theme already or needed to be done manually in order for this theme to work on Rpi4 Retropie!?

The "Lite" version is still missing some screens/systems that I couldn't find on the Launchbox Community Forums. Hopefully the community can help creating these using the assets in the links you provided:

I also renamed some systems so that they would work with my testing. Feel free to rename to fit your own setups.

Yeah, i read that too and tested it .. sure it works if you replace video with an image (png, jpg, gif etc)

I thought you were asking about the Original Unmodified "Nostalgia Pure" Theme.

The Lite theme looks great, and seems to work fine. I particularly like the period-appropriate TV/monitors for each console - that's a really nice touch.

Having said that, the lite theme seems fine when you boot up emulationstation, but if you play a game for a bit and then quit out to the main menu, it seems to struggle a bit. The background images can sometimes take a while to appear, and keep fading in and out. The small button icons at the bottom of the screen tend to flicker on and off as well.
