Pi 4 : Powerd by PC Question
-
I'm really happy to say , that I got my Pi 4 today in the mail and I'm excited
Unfortunately I didn't do my homework and didn't order a proper power adapter for it
So I just have a USB C connected to the computer and to the Pi 4 to power it on and just loading roms on it
Is it a bad move to keep it powerd by PC ?
Could I damage it if left for hours ?
I just ordered a power adapter so should. Be expecting that soon

I think you will run into trouble if you don't get a proper power supply for it.
The official power supply for a Pi 4 supplies up to 3.0 Amps.See the official page:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-4-model-b/specifications/- A good quality 2.5A power supply can be used if downstream USB peripherals consume less than 500mA in total.
EDIT: According to what I found on Wikipedia, USB Power Delivery seems to top out around 2.0 to 3.0 Amps for 5V devices depending on what revision your hardware supports. I think dedicated power supplies are much safer.
If you search the forums a bit, you will find posts where people experience all sorts of odd behavior when their cheaper power supplies couldn't put quite enough power into the Pi.

Very useful information and I very well understand
Thank you for bringing all that to my attention
Lucky enough I haven't play any games
I was mainly planning on , tweaking it , downloading and loading stuff into it meanwhile before i get the proper power adapter
Thanks again for the info
