Anyone getting the Sinden light gun?
-
my sinden lightgun with recoil will come in october :)
I have RPI4
now i use a airmouse for dreamcast House of the dead 2 -
@BJRetro I love and hate you at the same time. I never heard of this project up until your thread. After viewing the review from Linus Tech Tips on YouTube (see below), I've ordered a two-player pack without recoil which I just don't like, personally. The guns are said to ship in November.
If it's as good as the review says, I'll have to decide what to do with my two Ultimarc AimTrak lightguns. ๐ค
edit: some typos
-
I got so excited when I got the email yesterday he was going to start shipping them out. I didn't choose to be a beta tester (that's a bit out of my ken, I figured those that no more should have that honor) but I can't wait to get mine. I just wish I had more disposable income so I could get two. The technology behind it really seems awesome.

I didn't know I wanted a lightgun for my Pi until now... I think this is going on my Christmas list. Not sure whether to go with recoil or not, I haven't played enough games to know whether I want that. Hmmm..
-
@AdamBeGood One thing I don't like in other recoil systems like the one of the Ultimarc AimTraks is their loudness (look on YouTube for examples). I couldn't find any videos that show the Sinden recoil in action, so I'm going the safe road without it.
The +50 GPB per gun was another point to consider, and I just don't need recoil on a light gun that much, personally.
edit: Ah, and one more concern in general was that mechanical parts with such a force may add a significant point of stress to the gun, potentially shorten their lifespan. Though I have to say that this is just a gut feeling without any actual experience.

@Clyde heโs still working on the recoil PCB per the last update so there will be some delay to that anyhow. I think if I recall correctly the recoil will be modular so in theory we might be able to order it later and put it in once we can see it running.
Glad about your order! Seems he has things in place now to mass produce. Even though the project took a year and a half he was really good about keeping everyone up to date, so I hope it all actually works well. His tech is apparently going to be in a Arcade1UP for Big Buck hunter as well.

Just ordered mine, hope it's as good as it looks to be :)
-
@Clyde Makes sense - I think I might order a non-recoil version then!
-
@AdamBeGood That's what I went for. I don't need recoil.

@Steams71 I got it two days ago. Excellent build quality. So far only tested on PC because I have to get around wiping one of my 3b+ sd cards since the build on my 3b+ is really outdated, better to start fresh with all the updates in my opinion. But on PC so far, NES games perfectly sight accurate with crosshairs disabled, and reloading with the pump action in House of the Dead 2 (Tested on Naomi on Flycast) actually works!

When i got a Wii gun for the raspberry, i concluded there's not enough light gun games that peak my interest to justify buying a Sinden lightgun considering our budget.
And you really need to buy two to make it any fun. -
Really mulling it over, have been since it's development but even more so after Linus review on Linus Tech Tips.
-
@Crush yeah totally understood I bought in very early in the Kickstarter when I was building my pi bartop arcade and thought wow this would be amazing to really totally complete the arcade setup with the last few remaining games I would want to play from my childhood since I always enjoyed light gun games at the arcade and probably played them more than any other. I only bought one and the non recoil version.
-
I'm really looking forward to your guys first impression when you finally get yours
-
I would love to know if Sinden plan to just sell the electronic 'guts' of the gun only without the shell & I can just 3D print my own. Reason being in Australia, we have some really tough gun laws & importing something that even remotely resembles a gun will most likely land you in deep trouble.
All that is required is assembly which should be easy enough.

Aaand I seem to have been right doing this. Here's a first demonstration video of the recoil Sinden, and it's very loud:
According to the last Indiegogo update, the recoil can be switched off for late gaming sessions. See there for more on the recoil and current status of the next deliveries.

Now when I'm finally have a Pi4 up n running in my main cab, I'm definitely getting the gun for the January shipments ๐. Very undecided about the recoil though. I thought it was super badass with recoil in the ps2 era..
*Edit: Just ordered one!

I'm thinking the recoil noise level is probably similar to what is in an arcade system, but when you are not in an arcade with all the ambient noise it seems crazy loud and annoying. Definitely will be interesting to see how it holds up over time.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
