Controller woes!

Running RetroPie 3.8.1 on Pi3
Setup a generic USB NES controller, works fine then play a few games and exit the NES emulator and B is now A button. So have to reprogram everytime I plan.
Same for both player 1 and player 2 on USB NES controllers.Tried a generic USB SNES controller, same things in NES or SNES emulators.
NES controller tested on laptop and non emulationstation = worked fine, although D pad totally sucks on everything but is just a $5 controller. Main thing is buttons stay programmed the same.
Tested SNES controller on laptop non emulationstation = nothing wanted to work with it, D-pad was wrong inputs.Tried a Logtec F710, setup fine, feels great adn tactile, works to access menus great but doesn't work at all in any emulators. Seen a fix for a f310 but can't find that setting in 3.8.1 in retroarch.
Love to just have 2 working like ps2 usb controller but hate throwing away money trying to get controllers that work and don't have to be dinked with continually which has always been my issue with emulators.

Hmm ok so not just when I exit say NES games menu its once I go into a game and exit with holding select and start that B and A revert functions.
See if I can find a supported or known working ps2 USB wired controller that is a bit more basic than my Logitec f710.

If someone has a knownworking RetroArch config for a f710 that would be cool. Not sure how much different the f310 is but I'll give this a review and try it.

@Aspired I'm not sure if your problem is just the buttons mapping, but I think you would like to look at "Core input remapping" section in the wiki:

I ended up reinstalling to rebaseline for troubleshooting as when I first setup before with just the keyboard and single SNES controller I was able to play and use fine for a while without issue. I didn't mess with too many things really but trying controllers in multiple ports might have created the mess and well it's like a 5 minute process.
After reinstall I was able to setup the Logitec f710 fairly well with just a few test ROM for NES and SNES. I did the standard controller config but then went into the advanced global inputs and went through there also which cleaned up outstanding issues. Seems to be working solid so far.
Tested good and stuck when leaving games, switching between consoles and safe shutdown so looking solid so far
