It is better to help you this way, so you learn.

I know it can be confusing, but once you know how it is structured, you know.

You have to install this :
            https://www.mamedev.org/release.html

This is an emulator that has nothing to do with retroarch and libretro-cores.
            That's why it's called standalone.

                  Try to run mame once.
                  There must be a mame.ini .
If you open this with a text editor there should be directory's in them.
So you can see where the roms have to go to.

                  Try to read from here.
                  https://docs.mamedev.org/usingmame/usingmame.html

ps: I have to quit now. Perhaps I can help you tomorrow again.

Ok, try using the docs from the link I gave you.
                      Much is explained.

Perhaps i will install it too on a windows computer tomorrow.
So I can see what it does.

                      Good luck, for now.

                          @escc1986

                          I created a directory called :
                          C:\Program Files\mame0229b_64bit

I copied the mame0229b_64bit file in that directory.

I extracted this file in the same directory.

I copied the bios in :
                          C:\Program Files\mame0229b_64bit\roms\cdimono1.zip
                          containing :
                          cdi200.rom
                          cdi220.rom
                          cdi220b.rom
                          zx405037p__cdi_servo_2.1__b43t__llek9215.mc68hc705c8a_withtestrom.7201
                          zx405042p__cdi_slave_2.0__b43t__zzmk9213.mc68hc705c8a_withtestrom.7206

                          I copied arcade classics (1996)(namco - philips)(eu)[!][compilation].chd in :

                          C:\Program Files\mame0229b_64bit\roms\cdimono1\arcade classics (1996)(namco - philips)(eu)[!][compilation].chd

In the dos-prompt I started mame like this :

                          C:\Users\yourname>cd "C:\Program Files\mame0229b_64bit"
                          C:\Program Files\mame0229b_64bit>mame cdimono1 -cdrm "C:\Program Files\mame0229b_64bit\roms\cdimono1\arcade classics (1996)(namco - philips)(eu)[!][compilation].chd"

                          So try this.

I could not get it running within the menu.
This loading depends on hash tables and so the naming and the directory structure has to be perfect.

Skipped this because I don't want to spend that much time on this.

I hope this works for you.

                                Hi Folly

i Tried your approach with no luck , however i did get it to work with a similar alternate way

                                i actually

                                1. Downloaded messui229

                                2. Took The bios (containing :
                                  cdi200.rom
                                  cdi220.rom
                                  cdi220b.rom

                                zx405037p__cdi_servo_2.1__b43t__llek9215.mc68hc705c8a_withtestrom.7201

                                zx405042p__cdi_slave_2.0__b43t__zzmk9213.mc68hc705c8a_withtestrom.7206

                                1. Put the bios in the roms

                                2. put my rom "hotel mario" in the roms

                                3. ran the exe " messui.exe "

                                4. Selected "System" in the left section

                                5. looked for "CD-I Mono Pal"

                                6. i doubled clicked "CD-I Mono Pal"

                                7. brought up the menu , then i went to the top and selected Cdrom

                                8. cdrom mount file

                                9. i selected my chd .

12 . i then selected the options and selected soft reset

                                1. after 30 sec ... menu brought up and game played

tried this with 4 games all seem to work great ... thank you very much for all your advice and helped

@escc1986 Out of interest, do Zelda: Wand of Gamelon and Link: Faces of Evil work on your Pi CD-I setup? They both freeze as gameplay starts with mine.
