Calling Pi 4 Atari Jaguar Fans

The VirtualJaguar developer basically quit right after someone from libretro was basically harassing him to try to get a core made and he wasn't interested in doing anything but working on his emulator. They basically made the core themselves in spite of him and the emulator didn't really get updated again after that.
I don't think anyone in particular is working on Jaguar support in MAME at the moment (beyond documentation).

Does anyone heard or tested the emulator: Project Tempest
It's seems to be an old emulator

It's a super old Windows only emulator that is only worth using for a handful of games, Tempest 2000 among them.

The last one seems to be a russian emulator

@DTEAM Yes, Phoenix is closed-source however.

@zerojay I tried to install your scriptmodule, but it seems "run_mess.sh" script can't be found. It's supposed to be in ~/Retropie-Setup/scriptmodules/ but it's not...
I reinstalled lr-mess from Source and that seemed to fix this error. I then encountered other errors that I haven't got past yet, but I am further on from where you are at least..
Edit: I've just realised that I did the below before I installed the emulator in case this version of lr-mess was different in any way. This was on the back of this thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/25576/new-scriptmodules-lr-vice-xvic-gsplus-proper-lr-mess-integration?_=1601438647362
cd ~ mv RetroPie-Setup RetroPie-Setup-backup git clone https://github.com/valerino/RetroPie-Setup.git cd RetroPie-Setup sudo ./retropie_setup.sh
I don't know if it made a difference but I'll mention it anyway.

@AdamBeGood
I think You must did that on a fresh build
When I did that, It changed my config folder and I lost the capability to load my stuff.
You must do a real backup of your SD Card if you run those lines. -
I would highly suggest not running retropie setup from that repo as they may have other changes/be out of date/etc... and you are risking breaking your stuff.
Just cherry-pick the scriptmodules that you need from that repo and put them into your standard RetroPie-Setup.

@zerojay
Correct me If I'm wrong, but If you get packages from Valerino and not from Retropie or from source. You are not able to update Those after installation. Is It right? Why I'm saying that, is because you can run CD-I with those line, but with the recent MAME update, CD-I is down. -

They are merely instructions that retropie follows to build/install this stuff. If you want to update, just build it again. I don't know what "cd-i is down" means.

@zerojay
That's true, It's only configuration and the real update are with Lr-Mess. Sorry for this confusion. -

@DTEAM Considering there isn't a whole ton of games in the Jaguar library, it would be really awesome if you would consider doing the same thing for the rest of the games too.
I'll do It periodically. Just watch the list, I'll add new games everyday or every week.

In the Retroarch menu of Lr-virtualjaguar, some games are fasters with Quick Menu/Options/ Fast Blitter = on (like Fight for life (Europe), I recommend to use It most of the time. Test It when you play. Sometimes there's no difference but other times, It's a necessity. Gain of 5 to 8 FPS for games like Fight for life (Europe) or Atari Kart. Sometimes It's nothing (no gain) like Attack of the mutant penguins. Sometimes negatives effects (grafx) like Breakout 2000.
The most spectacular gain is with Checkered Flag. 26.9 FPS to 45-48FPS with Fast Blitter = on . The game went from almost not playable to fun to play !!!
I think It has a great effect on 3D games. -
@DTEAM I seem to remember Fast Blitter making a bit of difference with AvP when I tested.
Edit: Does anyone know what "Fast Blitter" actually is?
-
I can confirm.
Fast blitter makes AvP playable for me. Without it, it's a slideshow. On an overlocked Pi it runs smooth enough to play, but even on a stock one fast blitter boosts the framerate significantly. I want to say by at least 75% although I can't actually be sure.
Rayman ran a touch slow on my overlocked RPi, but it's playable.
Wolfenstein 3D booted and gave me a horrible screeching sound, I did not dare go any further.
Tempest 2000 was too slow to be playable, even on an overlocked rig. -
I run everything with Fast Blitter on unless it breaks the game. Wolfenstein won't play with it on.
-
@George-Spiggott Ah that explains why I couldn't run it. I'll try that again without Fast Blitter.
-
@Zering
If you wanna play Wolfenstein, try the 3DO version. It worked great for me and the sound quality was great. -
@DTEAM Haha I've already gushed quite a bit about the 3DO port in the 3DO thread but thanks for the recommendation! It is a beautiful game.
Edit : Aaaaand it's utterly unplayable on the Jaguar anyhow. Worst sound performance I've heard on the RPi yet.
