@DTEAM I seem to remember Fast Blitter making a bit of difference with AvP when I tested.
Edit: Does anyone know what "Fast Blitter" actually is?
-
I can confirm.
Fast blitter makes AvP playable for me. Without it, it's a slideshow. On an overlocked Pi it runs smooth enough to play, but even on a stock one fast blitter boosts the framerate significantly. I want to say by at least 75% although I can't actually be sure.
Rayman ran a touch slow on my overlocked RPi, but it's playable.
Wolfenstein 3D booted and gave me a horrible screeching sound, I did not dare go any further.
Tempest 2000 was too slow to be playable, even on an overlocked rig. -
I run everything with Fast Blitter on unless it breaks the game. Wolfenstein won't play with it on.
-
@George-Spiggott Ah that explains why I couldn't run it. I'll try that again without Fast Blitter.
-
@Zering
If you wanna play Wolfenstein, try the 3DO version. It worked great for me and the sound quality was great. -
@DTEAM Haha I've already gushed quite a bit about the 3DO port in the 3DO thread but thanks for the recommendation! It is a beautiful game.
Edit : Aaaaand it's utterly unplayable on the Jaguar anyhow. Worst sound performance I've heard on the RPi yet.

"Analog Sensitivity must be fix at 0.3 for Lr-Mess"
Where is this settting seen?

The blitter is a chip that's responsible for "blitting" to the screen - essentially assembling the graphics and spitting out the results. Fast blitter is a rewrite of the emulation of the blitter with lower compatibility as far as I am aware.

In the retroach menu ( select + x) Main menu/settings/Input/
Analog sensitivity is by default 1, must be change for 0,3 with lr-Mess

Interesting! Thank you.

I noticed there is also an lr-mess2016 in the experimental section. What is the difference between that and lr-mess ?

I don't know the difference, but I know one of the lr-mess tutorial threads I've seen states that 2016 is not a good option.

lr-mess = latest
lr-mess2016 = I think version 0.178 or so, released in 2016. -
I'm curious - has anybody attempted to run Jaguar CD roms through MESS? Not just on the RPi but on any device really.
-
@zerojay said in Calling Pi 4 Atari Jaguar Fans:
@DTEAM Considering there isn't a whole ton of games in the Jaguar library, it would be really awesome if you would consider doing the same thing for the rest of the games too.
Finally finished! It wasn't the most enjoyable thing I have done in my life, but an interesting exercise.
Should I create a new post just for this list?
-
@DTEAM Why not?
-
@zerojay and @AdamBeGood Should we suggest lr-mess2016 be removed from the experimental section if it is of no use?
[edit for clarity]

If what is of no use?

It works great for some games . I think They should keep It. With the list above, We know which games don't work and the ones who work well. Some games run at full speed or almost.
It's just sad not to have an alternative for other emulators after 25 years. Jaguar seems to be the unloved of simulated consoles. Worse than Sega Saturn.
-
@DTEAM I'm surprised you'd refer to the Saturn as unloved. I always thought the state of its emulation was due to the console's freakish architecture, but that it had a pretty strong following.
