Are you guys not getting that horrible screeching sound upon booting Wolfenstein 3D?
That's an instant Start + Select moment for me ^^ -
I don't get any sound on Wolfenstein 3D with lr-virtualjaguar.
-
It also seems prone to crashing/freezing at random times before or after a level.

Lr- virtualjaguar: black screen after first door (not playable)I didn't get a black screen on virtualjaguar but the ceilings aren't rendering properly.

So, we should keep It playable or not ?
-
@DTEAM Keep it for now, but I think it needs more playtime.
-
Has anybody figured out some way to improve the sound? Being able to play Alien Vs Predator is very exciting, but the sound scratches and glitches quite often for example, which is distracting.
-
@Zering
Try with Lr-Mess. I think It's a better game experience . I'll change my emulator choice -
@DTEAM is it a better emulator choice overall in your opinion?
-
I've just installed the lr-mess experimental package via RetroPie Update. There are a few methods on here to configure it. Which is the best one to go with?

For this game , yes . But not all games
-
@DTEAM can mess run the same rom set as virtual-jaguar?
-
Yes. But If you use the mame hash file . The names of your romset must match ( manually method by me above) But if you use the .sh script above, It doesn’t use the mame .xml hash file list and your romset will work.
Try to found a mame redump romset with MAME names and you will be covered on both sides

Finally got round to trying to set up lr-mess. I clearly haven't been using the script right because it doesn't do anything for me. I have also tried the manual method but systems.cfg causes retropie to crash. What am I doing wrong?

There's no way to know with what little information you've given here.

The first time, there is a lot of trial and error to get it right. When Pi stopped, it didn't really stop. When that happens, open FileZilla and open runcommand.log with Notepad ++ to see what's going on. runcommand.log is in
/ dev / shmIf you succed to install Lr-Mess for this system, it's the same procedure for 20 and more other new systems without keyboard like:
RCA Studio 2
Bally Astrocade
Arcadia-2001
CreatiVision
Super Cassette Vision
Dreamcast Virtual Memory unit
Microvision
Adventure Vision
Game Pocket Computer
Game Master
Gamate
Mega duck
Supervision
Tiger Handheld ElectronicsTiger Game-Com
Super Acan
GP32
Casio PV-1000
GX4000 Amstrad
Casio loopy
FM Towns Marty
Philips CD-I -
@DTEAM Damn, some of those I wasn't even aware of. I'm going to have to get those Tiger Handheld going on my Pi now. Curse you DTEAM ^^
I keep meaning to try and see what mess does with Jaguar-CD, I'll look into it this week.
-
@Zering
Lr-Mess is one of the best kept secret on Retropie with Sega Noami/Atomiswave on Lr-Flycast -
@DTEAM I've actually known of it for a long time, when I first had my Pi 3 three years I remember I even had a mess directory for roms, although the documentation convinced me at the time it was too tricky to use.
...And really it is ^^
-
@zerojay fair comment, I will attempt to be clearer.
Ok, I created the four .cfg files and put the in their respective folders. I copy pasted the contents of the files from the post to ensure no typos crept in.
When I boot my Pi I get the following message:
"It looks like your systems configuration file has not been set up or is invalid. You'll need to do this by hand, unfortunately."
If I remove the es_systems.cfg file from my Pi it boots normally.
