Hi all, and thanks in advance!

Has anyone run into the problem where after running Skyscraper (with Video Download enabled), their games stop loading?

So some specifics: Atari 2600, 7800, Mega Drive (either Genesis-plus-gx or picodrive), Sega CD, and I think I tested some others. Games loaded fine prior to running Skyscraper but failed to run afterwards. I tried to search the forums here for anyone who has run into something similar, and I saw one stating something about parsing game lists, but wasn't really sure what that mean.

Is there a specific way I need to run Skyscraper, or perhaps something I may need to do afterwards?

I will say that these games had already been scrapped for images using the standard scrapers a while ago.

I'm happy to provide more info if necessary....I didn't name specific ROMS or Bin/Cue names but certainly can.

Something else I just thought of: I ran Skyscraper and then realized that I hadn't enabled Video download. So I went back, erased local cache and then re-scrapped and re-created the games list. Also, when all was done, the Videos seemed to have downloaded just fine and were playing in the Carbon theme, just that when I went to start a game it would go to the now loading screen and then just bounce back out.

@Metal-Ghost said in Games fail to load after running Skyscraper:

enable verbose logging in runcommand to find out why ... and/or post the log here in the forum to look at.

Hi all. I finally had some time to spend with my Pi yesterday and play around with this issue, so just wanted to report back to everyone who had been so kind to lend me some advice. So I had actually previously re-flashed my card from a backup, so I went back through the steps of downloading Skyscraper, etc. I don’t know what the difference was, but this time it worked, sort of. Games would play, but it didn’t gather that many videos at all. But after some more tinkering, including signing up for a Screenscraper account and adding my login credentials to the Skyscraper config file, everything seems great now.

Just wanted to say thanks again....very much appreciated!

Just dropping by to add my thoughts. I don't think this is Skyscraper related. Skyscraper does not change how the games are started. It doesn't even know how to do that. It only generates the gamelist.xml with each supported game file from the chosen platform rom folder. EmulationStation then executes the relevant command with for the selected emulator.

So basically I think this is a case of something happening just before or after scraping the games that caused this. Maybe a dying SD card. Bad blocks can cause some pretty odd behaviour.

If anyone else experiences this though, I would be interested in knowing about it of course.

@muldjord Great insights, and thanks so much for everything you’ve done with Skyscraper! I really do like it a lot!

So I’m pretty sure it’s not the SD card. It was purchased brand new about a month ago and once I re-flashed from a previous back up and went back through the steps, everything seems fine now. But yea, I’m sure I must’ve done something or something else may have coincidentally been going on. Especially after reading your comments about how the tool works.

In any event, keep up the great work!!
