Help with FBA and controller

I have a home made arcade setup that i used two usb encoders to make and they go under dragonsrise inc. generic usb joystick. I tried playing some games in the final burn alpha emulator and most of the buttons i can live with but the directions for the joystick are pretty messed up. Example, Up is left, down is right, left is up, right is down. How do i fix this.

Look at the name between parenthesis in the box showed right after you start the game, like advmame-1.4 here:

If it's pifba, you have to edit the /opt/retropie/configs/fba/fba2x.cfg and change the following lines

#Joystick axis
JA_LR=0
JA_UD=1
.
.
.
#Joystick axis for player 2
JA_LR_2=0
JA_UD_2=1

Switch the 0s and 1s.

Oddly enough i used to get that message of what emulator im using but now i dont ever see it i dont know why. It only stays black then it goes to the loading of the game.
