It sounds good but doesn't the Xbox One use some sort of proprietary dongle that's neither Wifi nor Bluetooth?

yeah that may be the case, I'm not sure what technology it uses, but there is a wireless adapter for the PC with drivers, so I would assume it would be possible.... just need to figure out the drivers etc. and how they interact with the retropie ?

            I've ordered this from amazon:
            https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469720977&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one+wireless+adapter

so I'll be able to investigate further, just wondering if anyone else has done this ? xbox one is a solid controller so just trying to work this out.

I bought that, it doesn't work. The USB cable that comes with it works though

Yeah, I've never used the wireless version or know what it would entail if possible but the wired one with the micro USB cable works fine not that is what you're looking to do.

Wifi protocol is proprietary but hardware is not: https://github.com/paroj/xpad/issues/14

It's being worked on. A guy on Github managed to make the controller receive input via wireless on Mac, so it's a matter of time until it's further refined, then ported to Linux. Since I've got a long enough micro USB cable (the one that came with the Play and Charge kit) and I usually play alone, I don't really need the wireless dongle ATM, but I'm looking forward to the protocol being cracked and the driver being updated.

Thanks for the information Zpectre87 - yes definitely looking forward to the wireless portion, wired works, but for a nice clean setup for your bar/game area it would be nice to have wireless! looking forward to hopefully getting that functionality
