While viewing the game list for an emulator in emulation station, and assuming it is a looong list, I know I can:

      • hold down the controller (a LONG time) to cause the UI to enter "super fast scroll by letter" mode.

      • use the select menu to jump to a particular letter

This is OK but it's kind of limiting, and seems like two extremes: go very slow, or go MEGA FAST with no in between :(

Are there any controller shortcuts to jump down by a page, or by a letter? Like "press X+Y and down to jump to the next letter" or similar?

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but in the Libretro cores with default controller settings pressing the the right and left shoulder buttons are page up and page down single click. Holding it will page up and page down in rapid succession.

Yeah, you can use L and R to page up/down on emulationstation.
This is a emulationstation feature, nothing to do with libretro cores.
            ;-)

Thanks Meleu for clarifying I wasn't sure but I knew I use the left and right shoulder to navigate the games and the z and x (MAME defaults on the keyboard). :)

Hey @buzz shouldn't this shortcut show at the bottom of the Emulation Station UI (along with select, start, a, etc) so people can discover the page up / page down = L bumper / R bumper shortcut a little easier?

                That'd be awesome!!

Probably, but it's no secret I have been avoiding doing ES improvements - apart from core stuff / important bug fixes (as I don't want to maintain it, and the more I do on it, the more people ask for new things :-) )

There is a shortage of space there also (depending on resolution).

I don't think there is space on lower resolutions to include the page up /page down at the bottom however (My dev pi has a 800x600 display connected). But if you can squeeze it in, please do.

I know this is an old thread but is this functionality still active. Nothing happens in my recent installation of ES when pressing shoulder buttons.
