How was everyones Christmas?
-
Mine was good, although still bummed about MagFest being cancelled.
-
All things considered, I had a cozy christmas. I don't really care for it to be honest, and the circumstances this year didn't exactly contribute to a festive mood. But yes, it was all right.
I bought an old C64 cartridge a few days ago. "Skærmtrolden Hugo":
A Danish TV game which was pretty popular in TV shows in several countries in the early 90's, although they all used the Amiga version of the game.
I remember borrowing that cartridge from a friend back in the day. I was a huge Hugo fan and loved the music, the synthetic voice and, for the time, fluid animations in the game. The gameplay is extremely simplistic, and you can literally play the entire game in 2-3 minutes and then that's it. There's nothing more to it.But hey, nostalgia, right!? :D
-
@muldjord Huh didn't know the c64 was popular there
-
@redbatman In Denmark? Yes, absolutely. The Commodore 64 and Amiga was, by far, the most popular home computers here at the time. Almost all of my friends had Commodore machines with either tape stations or disk drives.

I spent christmas with my girlfriend who came over from the city where she lives for the time of her studies. With all shops but groceries and takeaway restaurants closed, as well as all entertainment locations, and all winter fairs being canceled here in Germany, we mostly stayed at home and went for strolls or the occational bike ride in the mild winter weather. edit: Oh, and played through Torchlight 2 together for the second time, but in "NG+" difficulty.
Like @muldjord, I don't care much for the religious or cultural part of this season, especially since christianity only adopted existing "heathen" traditions (knowing that, I find it very ironic that some christians lament about christmas "being stolen" by secular culture). That said, the darkness and cold weather alone are enough reason to eat, drink, and have fun with your loved ones or friendly strangers, so I cherish this time of the year for that alone.
My friends and I like(d) to go medieval and other historical markets, dressed up accordingly (even though not really authentically 👺 ). Alas, this business sector was hit very hard by the Corona lockdowns for the most part of this year. At the very least, we tried to support our favourite vendors by ordering our yearly stock of mead and other contemporary consumables by mail.
So above all else, I miss the conviviality and gluttony very much this year, but I know and accept the reasons, and I hope that all that will return next year in one form or another.

I spent Christmas day experiencing feverish symptoms and wondering what was going on. I later that night confirmed I had a low grade fever. On Sunday I was informed that I had been 'contact traced' by someone who tested positive for COVID from my work. So then I arranged to be tested and I turned out positive as well.
On the positive side, I only had the fever one day, and all other symptoms I experienced have been mild. And at my work we shut down between Christmas and New Years so my "quarantine" was paid time off anyway.
I've been relentlessly playing Super C trying to get where I can run the whole game without save states. Also playing other old games I love.
-
I had a good Xmas. Nice and relaxed - not much RetroPie code done I'm afraid but I did enjoy actually playing some games on it for once :-)
Happy new year everyone!

@yfzdude get well soon.
-
I got a pi4 and a NesPi4 case :)
Have tinkered a bunch going from 3 to 4.
Now trying to figure out why I get some screen tearing.I spend a lot more time messing with this thing than I do playing games on it. And I love it.
Hope you and yours had a great one!

@muldjord This guy was also on Irish TV "as gaeilge". You just brought back some horrific memories :D
-
@paddydukes @muldjord He was also on German TV simply as "Hugo".
-
@clyde @paddydukes , yeah, the concept spread like wildfire back in the early nineties.
-
Ιt was a strange Christmas for me because of the situation with the virus but I had a great time eating a lot of nice food with good company.
Happy New Year to everyone!!
-
A shame some folks couldn't celebrate as they could. Though then again not really anyone's fault this year (thanks covid and politicians.) I had a good Christmas and a great New Years so far. I live in the States so my experience is probably a little different than in Europe. I have also this past year got more into Linux gaming this past year since Windows 10 was ticking me off so much, so I downloaded Pop Os and that's what I have been using since March 2020. Aside from a few hurdles it has been a good experience and proton has come quite a long way.

@redbatman Welcome to the Linux community. I'm using different Ubuntu variants since December 2006 as my main systems (currently Kubuntu, KDE Neon, and Ubuntu MATE), with parallel Windows installations for only a handful of games that don't run on Linux, and that I can't live without, namely the Borderlands and Gothic / Risen series. I find it easier to quickly reboot for a game than to tinker with WINE. 😉
-
Both my wife and myself are each one Raspberry Pi 400 better off. Thanks for asking!

Oh Borderlands 2, you robbed me of so many hours of my life. I downloaded the season pack thing with the extra stories and lost so much more time....
I was afraid to get BL3 because I might have spent too much time playing that. LOL So instead I got into Fortnite. Not sure I actually saved any time there now that I think of it....
-
@yfzdude I also played only Borderlands 1+2, but with all DLC. The roleplaying episode with Tiny Tina as GM is one of the best homages to the paper & pen RPG genre that I ever saw. 😆
-
@clyde I spend my new years eve playing "Aye, Dark Overlord!" with a couple of close friends (whom were all tested prior). It's a lot like pen and paper role-playing, but sort of a light version. I loved it!
