I had a problem after updating 4 days ago. Updates finished over Raspberry Option Menu for the driver packages, Core packages. For emulationstation i found no update button in option menu. I have a PI4 and working about HDMI to Samsung TV. The background music is only playing in the main menu. In the games, there is no more sound.
I checked the settings described above and couldn't find any errors. Under sudo nano /boot/config.txt I could correctly find hdmi_drive = 2.
The following entries are under sound options:
      Sound 0%
      Audio card - default-
      Audio Device - HDMI
Omx Player Audio Device - Alsa

I'm also getting the lvl0: VolumeControl::init() - Failed to find mixer elements message and the volume slider always being at 0
The sound can be changed from 0% to 100%, but is not saved when you exit the menu. Is that the mistake?

If you need more information please write me.

I hope you can help me in this case.

      BR Oli

          Core Packages Update
          all main packages Update
          all optional packages Update

After the Retropie Update came a Error Message!

@oli I am also getting the same error message.

When I first boot, ES plays audio during video previews and nav clicks but, If I launch a SNES game, I have no audio in the game and lose audio in ES.

@lolkthxbai just got this message as well. I have sound before EmulationStation boot in my video splash but nothing after that. Not in the previews and not in retroarch
