Sound emulation not quite right. Anyone else a sound snob?
-
I plugged my Retropie through the video/audio jack to my crt switchbox alongside all my consoles and put on the same games side by side to compare them and the results graphically were pretty much spot on, but the sound on SNES and Megadrive are very lacking running through emulation. The bass of the snes is very subdued and the grittiness and loud thumping of some of the genny shooters games loses it's luster. It very apparent and it seems my console puts out a much louder signal as well. Any info about this or settings I could change to closer emulate the original sound chips in various consoles?

I guess my complaint is a little different. Sometimes sounds are not even there. Like for the original Donkey Kong, Mario's shoes dont squeak when you move for both Mame2003 and FBAnext. In Mortal Kombat 2, the "excellent" coin sounds dont sound off on Mame2003.

Which emulator ? Also you should try and get the audio from the HDMI. Did you increase the alsa/system volume ?

@GreenHawk84 you need samples for Donkey Kong.

@BuZz my bad, I got it. I installed samples on FBAnext and Mame2003 just now. I noticed yet Mame2003 plays the samples at the same volume as the rest of the game but FBAnext plays them LOUD.
