Mame menu lost

I pressed tab to enter in the mame 2003 menu, when im in config controls i was trying to add l2 or r2 to open the menu but i exited and left it unconfigured for error, now i cant enter, anyone can help me? Thanks.

@codafire load a rom in the core. Then press "select + x" to open the Retroarch menu. Then navigate from:
Retroarch main menu-> Quick menu-> options-> display MAME menu-> enable
Then exit retroarch menu, the mame menu will be open. Under input general map the button press you want to used to toggle the menu.
