I am running a PI3 and am having a issue that when I turn on the unit if my monitor is already on it auto sets to a resolution of 1680 x 1050. I will show the boot screen and the emulation station screen but when it get to the main screen it will only show the words choose menu and select at the bottom nothing else will show. If I turn on the PI first and wait a second and then turn plug in the monitor it will change to the resolution of 640 x 480 which will boot up and run fine but then the images and screens are very blurry. Any ideas on where I need to change the resolution for emulation station or how to change it so that it will match my monitor. I am using a phoenix monitor built for a arcade setup.

you can force the mode in /boot/config.txt - http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video_mode_options
