Re-imaging SD card; can I save the existing metadata?
-
So I need to re-install a freshly downloaded RetroPie image on my microSD card. Long story short, I haven't used my Pi 2 in over a year and the image on it was waaay out of date, and some of my config files have somehow become corrupt after running the updater tool and some emulators aren't working properly.
Anyway, I have a library of over a thousand ROMs on the Pi, all of which have appropriate metadata (box art, release date, summary, rating, etc). Can I copy all of that metadata to my PC using FTP before I re-image the card, then import it again to the Pi after I get the new image set up? That will save me hours and hours of having to comb through metadata again. If so, what folders will I need to copy (in addition to the ~/RetroPie/roms/ folder)?
-
Yes you can

I'll be copying out the entire roms directory anyway, but what other folder(s) will I need to grab the metadata?
-
@SA_Drone That will not get your metadata.
All of your metadata is in a hidden directory...which is actually a symlink....sticking to the point though...also copy.
/home/pi/.emulationstation/
That is the directory with all of your pictures and game lists. -
@SA_Drone an option has been added the scraper module to scrape your metadata into rom folders as well
