RetroPie no longer booting - pls help!

I hope you guys can help. I've been having a lot of fun with RetroPie and it has been working really well, until last night. All of a sudden and with no significant changes to the setup, it no longer boots. I shut it down as normal the night before i.e. by pressing Start on the EmulationStation home screen (where all the various systems are shown) and then selecting Shutdown System, it turned off fine (this process has also worked perfectly fine up to now).

When I turned it on today it powers on OK, I see the RetroPie splash screen as normal and shortly afterwards I normally see the EmulationStation splash screen, however, it doesn't appear. The strange thing is, it is at this moment that my HDTV shows "no signal" on screen, almost as if it has continued to boot in a resolution that is outside of what my HDTV can support.

I haven't purposely changed any settings in relation to this since I have had RetroPie (over 3 months now). The only exception to this, was when I was the Playstation emulator last night. I basically pressed Select + A to bring up the RetroArch configuration and simply changed the video setting to "16:9" instead of the default setting "Core Provided". I expected these settings to only apply to the emulator though, not the whole of EmulationStation?

As I can no longer see anything on screen, can anyone advise how I can check/change anything that may help resolve this? I'm sure it must be something simple, but, sadly I am at a loss as I don't know what to do. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Can you use PuTTY to connect to it over the network after it has booted up? If so you might need to make some changes to /boot/config.txt

sudo nano /boot/config.txt

If you can't see your Raspberry Pi on the network, then if you have a microSD card reader for your PC, you might be able to edit that same file mentioned above using your PC.

I'm not sure if you've already made changes to this file before but make sure to disable any overclocking settings.

I believe you can even force the out put to 720p 60hz by making these changes:

disable_overscan=1
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=1
hdmi_mode=4
hdmi_drive=2
