One switch safe power down method?
-
I am building a 1up cabinet and are wondering what is the best one switch power-up and more importantly power down method to safely quit RetroPi and turn off the Pi 4 (all the way with red LED off and fans stopped)
My kids are under 10 and following a shutdown procedure with many steps is not ideal.
I am afraid of SD card corruption if power is pulled without a proper shutdown.

Something like this, I suppose? You can get power up/safe shutdown with a single button connected to the gpio pins and a line or two in
config.txt

@mellow I recently finished my 1 up mod and made it as kid proof as possible, there's a great video on YouTube that shows you how to use the existing power switch and volume control,

I should add that the only extra button I needed to add was an exit game button on the side of the cabinet (double tap to exit) The only way to access settings is with the wireless keyboard that I keep hidden away

You need something like a Mausberry power circuit, that Youtube video is only sending the pie to sleep it's not shutting it down properly / safely like you're wanting. I use the Mausberry and my machine no longer randomly turns on and everything powered by the pie turns off with it. That's why all those videos of people doing the mods with LED buttons have to unplug the machine from the wall to get them to turn off unless they add another switch to turn them off.
