SimCoupe totally broken?
-
Running Retropie 4.7.1 on a Pi 3b. SimCoupe worked perfectly on my old setup but after upgrading to the latest (fresh setup from scratch) it crashes with this error:
Parameters: Executing: pushd /opt/retropie/emulators/simcoupe; /opt/retropie/emulators/simcoupe/bin/simcoupe autoboot -disk1 "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/samcoupe/Manic Miner (1992)(Revelation Software).dsk" -fullscreen; popd /opt/retropie/emulators/simcoupe ~ error: Video initialisation failed ~
If I update from source, it bizarrely appears to wipe the entire installation of the emulator.
-
@jimmyfromthebay It may have broken due to upstream changes. I will test.
The install folder is wiped when updating - this is normal behaviour. Is that what you mean ?
-
@buzz No. What I mean is if I update using "Install from source", the SimCoupe folder gets completely emptied. There's nothing left in there when the "update" is finished. If I try to run a game it crashes with a "There is no executable file" error.

@jimmyfromthebay Any findings on this? Updated to the latest binary dated 25 May but still the same.

An upstream update from last year for SimCoupe has added an OpenGL 3 requirement for the emulator when used on Linux. This requirement fails on RPI3, since it has no OpenGL support (only OpenGL ES). If you were running an older RetroPie image (based on Debian Stretch), then you were using an older version of the emulator, before this change took place.
We might be able to patch the emulator to make Open GL optional, but I think it's preferred to work with the upstream developer of SimCoupe and see if this requirement is really mandatory and maybe enable its functionality without Open GL.

@mitu Thanks for the info. It worked fine before without it, so hopefully there's no reason not to restore it as an option.
-
Try installing from source again and see if the emulator works now.
-
@mitu Will do as soon as I'm back on the Pi 3.

Just to note the binaries for the RPI have been updated.
