Over the past week I've been trying to upgrade my Pi 1 B+ from RetroPie v2.3 to v3.8.1 and, after several clean installs (including one today), I still can't get this thing playable. I haven't changed anything aside from overclocking, copying over a few dozen ROMs, and configuring my controller in EmulationStation. However, both my controller (generic Xbox wired) and keyboard (Bluetooth) become totally unresponsive once an emulator starts. Everything works fine in EmulationStation and I can access the RetroArch config that appears on game launch, but then, nothing.

...the weird thing is that after five minutes or so, the controller and keyboard suddenly start working. (?!)

My guess is that this is some sort of RetroArch/libretro issue because I don't have this problem when running emulators without the "lr" prefix. For example, I have no input issues when emulating Neo Geo games with PiFBA or SNES games with PiSNES.

I really appreciate any help you all can provide. I loved RetroPie 2 and I had thousands of ROMs up and running and I'd really like to get back to that place with RetroPie 3.

        [update]:

So I decided to give v4.0 RC1 a try, but the problem still persists. At this point I had to wonder if my controller was going bad and decided to go back to v2.3. Well, everything there works fine. I'm completely stumped.

I had a similar problem with the PS4 controller. I did update to the last version of retropie and it stopped working properly. I have re-installed v3.8.1 and now it works properly except with Sega Genesis/Megadrive games.
