        using the render resolution would be even more flexible - but requires a lot more work, so my PR may do for now (is it worth going higher res than 640x480 on the rpi anyway ?)

          ;-). This looks good. If we expect anything higher than 640x480 is too slow these two resolutions should be enough.

          Do you need higher resolutions?

            Let me test, ill have to load up a build on 3.8 I seem to remember needing 1024 at the minimum but its been a while, since I tested that.

              with the changes I just merged, it is relatively simple to add further higher resolution modes by editing /opt/retropie/configs/n64/emulators.cfg and adding a new launch line.

                @BuZz
                To test do i reinstall mupen or full emulation station?
                For a default image there should just be a launch line for 640 and 1024

                  I don't agree - I think 320x240 and 640x480 is enough, but feel free to change the launch parameters to whatever resolution you want on your install.

                  You need to reinstall mupen64plus after updating retropie-setup.

                    @BuZz only time any higher resolution might make sense is on a pc. Otherwise processing of the pi won't be enough. Just my two cents.

                        Sorry to drag up an old thread but is the fixed N64 rendering resolution of 320x240 the reason the games look terrible?

                        I posted this over on Reddit, but basically I have a new Raspberry Pi B 3, I've done a fresh download & install of Retropie 4.1, placed the ROM's in the N64 directory and if I use the gles2rice or GLideN64 video plugins it's VERY block & low resolution.

                        Interestingly if I use the glesN64 video plugin for Mario Kart or Super Mario 64 they both look incredible, very crisp as if they're being rendered at 1080p. Unfortunately these are the only games this works for, Zelda OoT for example looks as bad on this plugin as it does the others.

                        Sorry if I've missed an obvious setting? Here's the thread over at Reddit if it helps. How can I render some games at a higher resolution? I don't expect to run OoT at 1080p but if I could wind it up a little that'd be nice, on my 75" TV it's a mess.
