I am sorry if this is a basic question, but I could not find it anywhere.

Stella is currently on version 6.5.3, while the version (either the build or source version) available on retro pie is 6.0.1. Is there a way to either direct retro pie to grab the source/built version directly from the stella web site (rather than wherever it is pulling the outdated version from) and use that one, or a way to manually update retropie to load the stella web site version?

I am not very familiar with the command line (or at all with linux) but I am learning slowly about things such as ssh.

      Thanks.

You can modify the stella installation script and change the version (here). You can find this file in $HOME/RetroPie-Setup/scripts/emulators and you can modify it with an editor (nanoe is a simple one).
After modifying the file, you can re-install from source the emulator.

          Sorry for the necrobump...

Stella is at ver6.7 and has been at this version for a while now.

The developers are indicating that this may be last version of Stella - or it will be a long time before the next version is made. They are all on an extended hiatus.

          RetroPie's version is still 6.0.1

          newer homebrew need newer stella.

I have followed the instructions above as noted:
          rp_module_repo="git https://github.com/stella-emu/stella.git 6.7"

          script changed to 6.7.jpg

And I have installed from "source", but the result is that version 6.0.1 is still installed.

Not sure what else needs to be done to install the newer Stella version.

Can we request that the Stella ver6.7 be added to next RetroPie release?

@windg thanks! What timing is that? This is hot off the presses.

For what's it's worth, when following the instructions from @mitu it appears that you need to reboot (or maybe just restart emulationstation) for the updated script to take effect.

I rebooted and tried the "source" build again. Now I am currently in the middle of that source build, but at the very beginning it appears to be installing 6.7 but I won't know for sure until it completes (as some point while I am sleeping tonight).

If that fails, then it looks like I can now update retropie to get it with ease.
